Criminal Occult and Paranormal Activities Investigative Division

COPAID, or the Criminal Occult and Paranormal Activities Investigative Division, is an agency within the U.S. Marshals Service which investigates crimes of a supernatural variety. Originally established in 1897 under Executive Order by President William McKinley as the Supernatural Investigation Service, the name was changed in 1972 to better reflect the service’s role, and to better conceal its existence in governmental documents. (No one gives a second thought to a Congressional budget item labeled “Cop Aid”.)

As U.S. Marshals, COPAID investigators and specialists must tread a fine line between upholding U.S. Law and abiding by the Precepts of the Avalon Covenant. Their primary responsibility is to protect the public from paranormal threats to life and property. Secondary to that role, COPAID must keep knowledge of paranormal crime away from the public and other agencies. Multiple psychological and sociological studies conducted throughout the 20th century, and as recently as 2009, have determined that the world at large is not prepared to accept the actual existence of supernatural creatures and the very real threat they pose.
